The European Parliament voted on 22 June 2022 to adopt its amendments to the CBAM proposal, broadening its scope (adding chemicals, hydrogen, etc.) and setting phase-in timelines (starting 2027).

The Commission adopted Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/1288, the regulatory technical standards (RTS) under SFDR specifying templates/methodology for sustainability disclosures; it took effect 1 Jan 2023.

EU Council and Parliament negotiators announced a provisional agreement on the CBAM on 13 Dec 2022, under which a transitional (reporting-only) CBAM would start Oct 2023 and full CBAM from 2026.

The Commission adopted a Delegated Regulation (EU 2023/363) on 31 Oct 2022 (published 17 Feb 2023) to amend the SFDR RTS, requiring explicit disclosure of portfolio exposure to taxonomy-aligned gas and nuclear activities.

The EU Parliament and Council adopted Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 (the “Deforestation Regulation”, or EUDR) on 31 May 2023, banning timber, soy, palm oil, etc., linked to deforestation.

EU delays EUDR compliance

The EU published Regulation 2024/3234 on 23 Dec 2024, delaying the EUDR’s application by 12 months. Compliance deadlines were set to 30 Dec 2025 for large/medium companies and 30 Jun 2026 for micro/small companies.

’Omnibus I’ simplification package

The EU reached a political agreement on a “stop-the-clock” Directive (Apr 2025) that defers the CSRD reporting deadlines for “waves 2 and 3” companies (those due to report 2025/2026) by two years.
